One-Time Exemption to NEET ‘Unqualified’ as well as ‘Non-Appeared’ Candidates to Pursue MBBS Abroad-Delhi High court
The High Court while hearing a petition allowed one-time exemption to all medical students who wish to study MBBS Overseas.
The high court has asked the MCI to issue (EC) eligibility certificate to these students within a week. The court observed, “This court hereby declares that the petitioners are entitled to the same treatment as was given to those who did not appear in NEET; as a one- time measure, the respondents are directed to ensure that eligibility certificates are issued to all students who appeared in NEET (including the petitioners) but did not qualify the test.”
In February, 2018 the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had approved the proposal of the MCI to make it mandatory to clear NEET to obtain an eligibility certificate (EC) to pursue courses in overseas medical Universities. This was considered as a major drawback for various medical aspirants.
Nevertheless, students who did not register or qualify for NEET this year, the Delhi High Court had recently announced a one-time exemption for such medical students. Now, the medical aspirants can follow their dream to become a doctor without any worry.
This is a welcome step to ensure uniformity and equity towards the medical aspirants. This is the last golden opportunity for all medical aspirants to seek admissions in foreign medical universities of their choices at affordable costs. The admission process is closing and it is recommended that the students choose organizations with experience and single window clearance rather than running from pillar to post in search of best bargains which may not materialize. The students and parents are also cautioned not to become victims of fraud because of time shortage.
